Meet the team!
Meet the passionate and experienced team behind Blue Light’s Youth Centre.
- We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing suited to outdoor activities that will be comfortable under a harness. We recommend not wearing short shorts or having an exposed midriff, as this can be uncomfortable when wearing a harness. No skirts or dresses.
- Closed-in shoes (e.g. sneakers and trainers) are required; no open-toe footwear, including jandals, sandals or slip-off shoes, are allowed on the Rock ‘n’ Ropes. Crocs do not pass as closed-in shoes.
- Shoulder-length hair, or long hair, must be tied up to minimise the risk of it becoming caught. Hair needs to be tied as low as possible so that a helmet can be fitted properly. If you wear religious headwear that will not fit under a helmet, please advise us.
- Please dress appropriately for the forecast weather conditions, a light waterproof jacket is recommended when rain is forecast. A sunhat is recommended in the summer season.
- You must bring a water bottle. We have refill stations on site.
- We recommend packing a spare change of clothes. We have changing rooms on site.
- For safety reasons, cell phones are NOT permitted during any activity sessions. We kindly ask that you leave them at home or store them securely in your bags.
- We recommend you bring plenty of refreshments and snacks with you as there is no food on site unless organised prior. Please ensure all rubbish is placed in one of our bins or take it with you.
- All the necessary safety equipment is provided by Blue Light, please do not bring your own gear.
The Blue Light Youth Centre is located at 159 Dominion Road, Red Hill, Papakura, Auckland. See map.
You need to use Blue Light’s forms as your group is under our care during the activity times of the programme. All participants need to have completed Risk Acknowledgement forms before arrival. If any forms are incomplete participants will not be allowed to take part in the programme. This means all boxes need to be filled out or ticked. We want parents to be aware of, and choose, the activities their child will participate in.
The Medical Summary Form outlines any medical, physical or behavioural challenges participants may have. Blue Light needs to receive Medical Summary Forms one week prior to the programme starting. This allows Blue Light staff to create a plan to ensure all participants have the safest and best possible experience.
Blue Light works off a learning model of “challenge by choice”. We believe in empowering youth by allowing them to choose how far they push their comfort zones. In rock climbing, for example, some student’s challenges may be just putting on the harness and supporting their team from the ground. For others, it may be to climb halfway up the rock climbing wall and for others, it may be to climb to the top of the wall. We will encourage, but never force students to complete an activity.
